Sam Adams Augustfest

I’m currently in Alabama, but I decided to try Boston’s famous lagers version of Oktoberfest. (Full disclosure, it was free.) The brew comes in at 5.2% and 16 IBUs. It has returned this August in anticipation of the upcoming fall season. When tested with my palette; Starts malty, and finishes like some sort of bitter pilsner. That bitter taste in my mouth was both literal and figurative. This beer might be good for people who are not craft beer drinkers but maybe want to expand their tastes. However, if you’re a craft beer enthusiast I would avoid this one if you can. This is not a bad beer (if there is such a thing) but it left me wanting more. It almost feels like the brewers got lazy, like they could have made a better beer but this was “good enough” for the Coors drinker. (Which I assume is their target market)

This is going to sound really bad… but i think the beer looks like toilet water.

In the end I would say that Sam Adams Octoberfest is an attempt at bringing craft beer to the masses. But instead, it just tastes like a poor man’s Rickards Red.

Brown Ale? from Polska

Debowe, Dojrzale Mocne

(Oaks Mature Strong.. according to google translate)

I’m in Poland this week, so i’m sampling a couple of the local tastings. I picked up a random can which i thought by the look of it would be some sort of ale.

I was at the local grocery here in Rzeszow, Poland picking up some essentials (beer, duh) and decided to give this guy a try. At first sight I expected a brown ale or a stout. My mediocre palette is telling me this is a brown ale. My google translator is telling me the word “oak.” After doing some research, this is actually an unfiltered lager. Not technically a brown ale. On the tongue this beer starts smooth, almost sweet and finishes very very malty. The higher alcohol content in this beer is difficult to detect. (unless you’ve had three) Without arbitrary translation I would not guess this was a 7% beer.

Okay beer, unique flavour, tastes like Sleeman Honey Brown. (Without the honey and lots of malt instead)
